Lyocell – revolutionary fibers in textile industry

Lyocell is a fiber, made from cellulose (vegetable matter), or wood pulp. It does not loose its strength even when it is wet unlike viscose, which looses between 40 and 60% of its strength when it is wet. The use of lyocell is not widespread on the market because it is too expensive, no matter it is an organic product. Lyocell is a synthetic fiber and there are many possibilities to be used for.

In fact, lyocell is a fabric most know better by its brand name Tencel. It is extremely soft and is washable. Although it is used mainly in fashion industry, medical bandages are also made of it. Lyocell can look like different fabrics – sometimes it can imitate denim or velour. It is often called moleskin. Lyocell can be produced in a special manner to look like wool, cotton, synthetic silk.

Clothes made of lyocell are really expensive – a blouse cost at about 100 USD.
